Ice [?] Breaker Skim 2010

Will Beange and Roberto GM from Kayotics Skimboards took a break from their studies at UVic and headed down Friday afternoon to Gryo Beach in Caddy Bay for their first skim of the year. Tagging along was their foreign exchange student friend Ross ‘I’m from America’ Bringgold who took some photos. Good luck in 2010!

Spot Check :: Parksville

Whats Up Guys,

So last summer a buddy of mine went up to the beach hideout of Parkville and sent me back some shots and with no rail and no driftwood to play around with the variety of tricks weren’t too different but the scenic quality of the place blew me away. Cameron Bullen is a Spanish banks local who is friendly with the Spanish flyers but also skims with an all youth skim crew called SSK… you can usually tell who they are because their rails are either A) plastered with so many tydle stickers and stencils you don’t know what the first coat of paint was, B) they are covered in some of the sickest graffiti pieces from youth I have ever seen and C) the kids riding them are always killing it. Cam is a laid back guy with a real unique style of banks thrown in with some nice fakie tricks and he can always seem to nose grab even on the thinnest of water…

And the shameless promotion is due to the fact that I have skimmed with this guy since we were learning how to “shuvit” back in the day when we thought that that was as tech as we could get

Parkville beach is a great skim spot located in the relatively small town of Parkville on BC’s Vancouver Island. In the town of Parkville there are two main beaches, Parkville beach and Rathtrevor beach, although Parkville beach is more central and tends to be the main beach for skimboarders. It’s about two hours drive outside of Victoria, and while a good spot for the dedicated skimmer it’s hardly worth the two hour trek from Victoria and definitely not worth coming all the way from Vancouver for these beaches alone. Despite this if you find yourself in the area it’s a definite must for anyone with their board. It’s located on the east side of the island so the surf is nowhere near as big as you would find on the west side though the tides at the beach are spectacular. At low tide the water can recede almost 600 meters and offer you almost a hundred tide pools to choose from! This beach is also one of the most scenic beaches on this side of the island. It offers views along the coast as well as views back towards the mainland over the gulf islands. The only problem is that at certain times of the year these pools become so full of shells and sand dollars that they become unskimable. The vibe at the beach is great, the people are laid back and you can usually find a few skimboarders out there when the tide is low but with so many pools to choose from it never gets crowded. Overall Parkville beach offers a great skim spot for anyone looking to ride in one of the most scenic skim spots around.

Perfect Skim at Bondi Beach, Sydney

Will Beange reminisces of the hot summer he spent at Bondi Beach in Sydney Australia. If you can dodge the crowds, the beach offers both Wave and Flatland skim (depending on the tides).
